EDITORIAL.- Surrogate gestation is becoming an extended practice among male gay couples who wish to exercise paternity. This assisted reproduction technique is popularly known as "surrogacy", a not very fortunate term if we consider that there does not always have to be an economic consideration. On the other hand, it supposes a reductionism because the woman contributes much more than her uterus, she involves herself psychically and physically and also dedicates a considerable period of time.
The fact that some celebrities out of the closet, as is the case of Ricky Martin, have resorted to this method to be parents, has just placed at the center of the controversy. In spite of the fact that there is broad support from organizations and associations for LGTBI rights, we can not ignore that some critical voices are also raised with this practice and not all come from conservative sectors.
Among the arguments against surrogate paternity, we would like to emphasize here the one held by broad sectors of feminism. Affirm that "To use the body of the woman as a means to obtain a child is immoral, it is a more form of appropriation, control, subjugation and exploitation of the woman".
