GAYLES.TV.- The social network Twitter has closed the year with the announcement of an update of the rules pertaining to its use policy and with the warning that Any account that incites hatred for various issues, including sexual orientation, will be automatically eliminated.

Megan Cristina, Director of the Trust and Security department of Twitter, published a text last week on her personal blog in which she clearly specifies the reasons that could lead to the cancellation or suspension of user accounts: "Encouraging violence against other people or attacking or threatening them directly because of their race, ethnic origin, nationality, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability or illness.

It should be noted that Twitter already had use policies to prevent discrimination or hatred, but the reasons for sanctions and the type of sanctions had not been specified up to that point. In fact, the social network is in favor of respecting the diversity of opinions and beliefs as long as the red line of abuse or the obvious manifestation of hatred or incitement to violence is not crossed.

The possibility exists that users may be asked to delete certain comments or request that a telephone number be associated with the account. In case of clear breach of the rules, the temporary or definitive blocking of the account would proceed.

It is clear that this positioning of Twitter has a very positive impact on the collective LGTBI, whose members have been repeatedly insulted and harassed by some of the users. To cite an example, it is known that the word "fagot" (fagot in English) has been tweeted 34 millions of times and of course it is not the only insult that makes reference to LGBT people that we often find in network comments.

In short, good news to start the year and an example that should follow other platforms and networks that often do not distinguish the fine line that separates freedom of expression from incitement to hatred and violence.
