The young Japanese photographer Momo Okabe has been awarded the prestigious "Paul Huf" photography prize for her series "Dildo" and "Biblia". They narrate the gender transition of two of his mistressess through raw images for their content, but treated from the tenderness that the relationship with their protagonists brings.

awarded with € 20.000 and a scheduled exhibition, it recognizes the works of artists under 35 years of age and was established by the FOAM Museum of Photography in Amsterdam in 2007. The "Paul Huf" highly values formal excellence and risk issues and both factors coincide in the work of Momo Okabe.
The photographer combines in her series allegorical compositions and landscapes tinged with melancholy with the Explicit images of her two ex-girlfriends in the process of sexual transformation. Some, such as those of a reconstructed penis or the image of the scars left by the removal of the breasts, are affected by their toughness colored only by the use of light and the filters and film used by Okabe.
Kaori and Yoko star in this seriess, both had gender dysphoria and both maintained relations with Momo Okabe. Yoko traveled to Thailand where she underwent a sex reassignment intervention and Kaore opted for a less invasive surgery limited to the removal of breasts.
Okabe, which has been defined as the great Japanese hope for Daido Moriyama, a living legend of Japanese photography, embodies the image of silent and taciturn artist. Perhaps because of the transgressor profile of his work, he maintains a low profile in networks and the internet, where he lacks his own website, Facebook or Twitter. This has not prevented the highest recognition of his work, which the jury says: "We were impressed by the emotional power of their projects and the extremely personal nature of their work.or, that combines tenderness with raw intimacy (…) and the sensitive handling of an important and complex social issue such as transsexuality ».
