Time has received criticism for using the gay flag on trans issues
GAYLES.TV.- The prestigious magazine Time wanted to address in its May 30 issue the controversy over the use of toilets by the people transsexuals in United States. Recall that the HB2 Act recently approved in North Carolina it forces transsexuals to use the toilets in public buildings according to their original sex. The article of Michael Scherer that appears prominently on the cover is titled "Battle of the Bathroom" and the magazine's designers decided to illustrate it with six colored toilet paper rolls arranged as if they were the gay flag.
Critics on the networks soon arrived questioning why the magazine had decided to use the LGTB + symbol for an exclusively trans question. The trans flag was created by Monica Helms, a transgender woman, in 1999. The stripes on the upper and lower part are blue, generally associated with the masculine and the pink stripes symbolize the feminine part. The middle stripe is white for those who are intersex, transitional or considered to be gender neutral or undefined. The pattern is such that it does not matter which way to fly because it is always correct. The flag was first flown in 2000 in Phoenix, Arizona.
But apparently those of Time magazine did not know of its existence or have simply had a slip that has cost them to be the target of ironies on Twitter. The user Rachel sharp (@WrrrdNrrrdGrrrl), a writer from New York, redesigned the cover as it should have been, highlighting in a tweet that it had only taken ten seconds to do it using free software. In the image we can see on the left the original cover of Time and on the right the version of the Twitter feed. It is good that the mainstream media deal with the collective's issues, but it is unforgivable that a magazine as reputable as Time makes this type of mistakes on its cover.
