Assisted reproduction for single and lesbian women in France

France extends assisted reproduction for lesbian couples and single mothers

GAYLES.TV.- Finally France He has voted to extend assisted reproduction for lesbian couples and single mothers. As posted "Le Monde" It is the first major measure of social transformation that passes Emmanuel Macron in five years of mandate and has generated a heated debate between supporters and detractors. Finally, the measure has been approved by 55 votes in favor, 17 against and 3 abstentions.

The law known as "Bioethical law" It has been approved by the lower house of the neighboring country and the divisions before its approval have been raised considering that the rights of women, in this case, faced the superior interest of the child or the supposed problems that the absence of father figure since the pregnancy of single women would be possible.

The law also allows the preservation of oocytes, the donation of gametes and an aspect that is not contemplated in Spain: the possibility that children born from assisted reproduction techniques can know their origin, that is to say that the anonymity of the donor of sperm that today prevents these children from knowing the identity of the biological parent.

But there are also exclusions in bioethical law. Points such as postmortem assisted reproduction or for transgender people have not passed the debate, nor have the wombs of rent or the selection of gamete donors included in the law.

The approval of this law is a great advance for the rights of lesbians and women who want to access maternity despite being single and comes to fill a legal vacuum that in many cases generated situations of both legal and health risk.
