William-and-Tom- A border love story

GAYLES.TV.- Sometimes it is good to distance oneself from the big headlines and the big issues, park the legal regulations, homophobia, diversity and everything that LGTBI information gives of itself every day to reach the detail, in the daily , in the small / large stories of love and struggle that many people live to be able to stay together.

This is the case that concerns us today. History tells us about Tom Swann, a former US marine of 58 years who suffers from AIDS and an advanced blindness and who in May of the 2015 met the Mexican Guillermo Hernández, of 21 years. Tom and Guillermo fell in love and decided to start a life together in a caravan installed in Rancho Mirage. The last 24 of December, while celebrating Christmas and Guillermo's birthday set the date of their wedding for Valentine's Day. But bad luck meant that 4 days later Guillermo was arrested for violating Tom Swannthe ban on access to a casino.

The young Mexican man is serving a sentence in a prison of the Office for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) where he was forced to enter after having a history of possession of drugs and for not having attended the probation controls. His deportation is scheduled for next week. Given the situation they were in, the couple decided to marry in the detention center, thus becoming the first homosexual couple who marries inside a prison. The ceremony was held at the immigration center of Calexico, California, where Guillermo is being held.

The crimes attributed to him are minor, but have prevented the boy from renewing the immigration permit he had for coming to the US when he was 7 years old, known as DACA. That's why the couple's lawyers are reviewing the case to try to stop the deportation of Guillermo scheduled for the next March 23.

Tom has stated that if they deport Guillermo, he plans to sell the caravan and move to live with his husband in the city of Mexicali and added: "Guillermo should not be deported, it was three minor crimes he committed and he has no one in Mexico , our immigration system is terrible. "

There will be those who think Guillermo deserves to be punished for his past mistakes, but does not everyone deserve a second chance? We hope that justice will find a way for the couple to continue happily with their life together.
