Craig Burns and Luke Sullivan have become early in the morning the first gay marriage in Australia after the law came into force
GAYLES.TV.- Australia this morning has become the 26th country in the world where, officially, marriages between people of the same sex can already be celebrated. The first of them has joined Craig Burns and Luke Sullivan two athletes who, a few hours after entering into force the law of homosexual marriages, married in New South Wales. The intimate ceremony was held minutes after midnight behind closed doors in the company of 50 friends and family close to Gold Coast, on the east coast of Australia.
The couple met three years ago and decided to commit before the debate in Congress on the legality of gay marriage and finally passed the law that has made it possible. Burns is a well-known sprinter for having represented his country in the Commonwealth Games and in various world championships. In statements to the chain ABC has recognized that the couple had a very different idea about marriage before the commitment: "We thought that marriage was something between a man and a woman" Craig said, but now believes that "it is another way of showing love and appreciation for the couple in front of other people, not being able to do that is something that stinks a little, you want to show your partner that you love him" and concludes "Tonight I can say that the marriage is between two people".
Recall that the Australian Parliament approved the text a month ago to verify, thanks to a consultation made through postal mail to the entire population, that a vast majority of citizens were in favor of links between people of the same sex. Since parliamentary approval, some ceremonies had already been held for exceptional situations, but today's is the first since the law has fully entered into force.
