COMIC PAU Pau, a comic book against the LGTBI phobia

Pau is a comic that the FELGTB has presented as a guide on affective-sexual diversity and gender for adolescent students

GAYLES.TV.- The State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans and Bisexuals (FELGTB) and Education Federation of CCOO They have presented a new guide aimed at fighting against bullying and making the LGTBI community visible in the classroom. Its main recipients are secondary school students and for this reason it has been proposed in a more attractive comic format for an adolescent age group. The presentation was made within the framework of the campaign Vuelta al Cole and it is proposed as a guide on affective-sexual diversity and gender.

The guide consists of several stories that have as protagonist a Pau (FR), a transsexual adolescent and in his elaboration he counted on the contribution of Paris Espinosa, a young trans who knows first hand the day to day of LGTBI students and especially the girls and boys trans. In a press release FELGTB and CCOO have highlighted the need to find tools that act in the field of violence prevention to transform the classrooms into spaces free of harassment and more friendly. For this the main resource can not be other than the promotion of equality at all levels of education so that it is the students themselves who end up stigmatizing any form of bullying, violence or LGBTI phobic discrimination.

And is that the figures that emerge from the studies of the FELGTB are, at least, alarming: 43% of adolescents who have suffered harassment because of their gender identity or sexual orientation have considered suicide. Another study, in this case the Gay Collective of Madrid (Cogam) inform that in the Community of Madrid the 60% of adolescents have been able to witness homophobic attacks in their institute.

These figures should be enough to make us aware of the urgency of applying measures that help alleviate the situation and there is only one way: EDUCATE. In fact, in the report  STOP Child Violence published in this 2018 by Unicef, it is denounced that it is in the adolescence stage when one is more frequently the target of aggressions due to sexual gender issues. Nothing less than 50% of LGTBI students in secondary school have suffered bullying or cyberbullying.

Francisco García Suárez, Secretary General of the Federation of Education of CCOO has ensured:  «We want to reinforce our commitment to work in favor of diversity in the classrooms since this is the condition for there to be equality and equity, when diversity is not worked on, the school becomes more exclusive ». In the same line, it has been expressed Uge Sangil, president of the FELGTB, who has also claimed that the proposal of Law of Equality Lgtbi, "Stalled in parliamentary proceedings in the Congress of Deputies in the month that marks one year of the acceptance for processing of said proposal".

Hopefully, Pau will get to the heart and consciences of the boys and girls who live in our schools.
