NEWS.- Two of the attendees to the XXVI edition of the State Meetings of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals that have been held in Gandia this past weekend, denouncing an aggression on Saturday night.
Those attacked are Miguel Tabuenca, coordinator of Aleas EUPV (United Esquerra del País Valencià) and Santi Rivero, treasurer of Cogam. As they have stated, a car stopped in front of them at the exit of a friendly bar on the beach of Gandia, the occupant of the vehicle addressed them, rebuking them with the phrase "Fucking fagots, give me everything you have or I'll poke you with a knife". Fortunately, both were able to flee to the race and avoid greater evils.
The next day they went to a Gandia National Police station where, according to the statements of those attacked, the agent they addressed was complacent and his treatment was not as professional as one would expect in such a case. They claim that the policeman looked at them badly and with a contemptuous and arrogant tone, tried to convince them not to file a complaint. Finally they could report the facts with the help of another agent.
The organizers of the conference publicly denounce these events that "violate the rights and freedoms of LGBT people and violate the penal code" and urge the corresponding "implement the necessary measures to safeguard the safety of the participants of the conference" .
Also Ivan Soria, responsible for Diversity of Commitments by Gandia encourages those who suffer this type of attacks to denounce and asks the police authorities "Greater force against this type of actions". Soria complains "A legislative framework that recognizes in the Criminal Code the LGYB phobia".
It should not be tolerated that, the person who appears in a police station seeking protection, is treated as a delinquent instead of as a victim.
