That's why news like the one we bring today is so transcendent, because it involves the incorporation of a gay family in a children's series on equal terms with other families.
The channel has been given by the children's animation channel Nickelodeon and the series is popular "The Loud House" by Chris Savino, premiered last May's 2 in the US and later in Latin America with the title of "A crazy house".
The protagonist of the series is Lincoln Loud, an 11-year-old boy who lives with no less than 10 sisters. Well, in the episode aired this week, Lincoln invites his friend Clyde to a pajama party. The bell rings and just before opening the door the boy looks at the camera and pronounces the phrase "It's time to make history". A wink of the scriptwriters to the audience to emphasize the importance of what we will see next. And it is that Clyde arrives accompanied by two men, his two parents and for that it does not leave the slightest doubt, Lincoln receives them with the greeting of «Hello Mr. McBridge. Hello Mr. McBridge ». To finish the play is also an interracial couple, which does not involve any nonsense if we consider the one that is falling right now in the US with racial issues.
As expected, the first voices of protest have already been raised. The group "One Million Moms" has launched a protest campaign against the Nickelodeon channel requesting that the controversial sequence be withdrawn. The most curious thing is the argument on which they base their request: “children are exposed to same-sex marriages in a network that is designed for children. Only because something may be legal or because some choose a way of life that does not make it morally correct (…). Nickelodeon has decided to be politically correct instead of providing family programming. " There is no way to get this statement, but two sentences are very striking. What is “children exposed to same-sex marriage” supposed to mean? And the one that seems more serious to us: "instead of providing family programming". Because of course, ours are not families, those who knock on Lincoln's door leading their son by the hand are not family, children's programming can include everything, weapons, violence, usury, racism, everything except LGTBI families. Surely they would rather we didn't exist, but it feels like, we've come to stay.
