NEWS.- A few months ago we told you about the original request for a hand that they starred the tennis player Martina Navratilova and the former Russian model Julia Lemigova, in the course of an interview with Martina during the celebration of the US Open Tennis.
Julia gave the yes and this Monday, after 8 years of relationship, have married in a private ceremony attended by only family and a few friends held in New York. Shortly after the news of the link broke, the couple gave an interview to the BBC network in which Martina commented,
"I have 58 years and I was married for the first timeIt was about time, right? Growing up as a lesbian you never think about it and about ten years ago I thought, you know? I believe that in ten years, homosexual marriages will be legal. And here we are, ten years later, making it legal.
Julia Lemigova, of 42 years, is daughter of a colonel of the Soviet army and was Miss URSS 1990. After the fall of the curtain, it moved to Paris and contracted marriage with the basketball player Edouard Stern, that was assassinated by a prostitute in the 2005. Fruit of the marriage, Julia has two daughters, Victoria and Emily that contributes to the marriage with Martina.
Martina, a tennis legend, winner of 167 singles titles and 58 Grand Slam trophies, left the competition for good in 2006 when she stopped participating in doubles. Despite never having hidden her lesbianism, Navratilova made official statements in 1981 in which she declared that she was bisexual. Today she claims to be surprised that there are no gay tennis players who decide to come out of the closet and with a sense of humor she highlights "They are so far out of the closet that I don't even know who they are."
