The bride and groom who never saw their wedding photos

Gay wedding couple in 1957 The bride and groom who never saw their wedding photos

The photos of a clandestine gay wedding that were never revealed

GAYLES.TV.- The year was 1957 and, although there were still many years for the marriage between two men to be legalized, links between people of the same sex were already held underground.

This is demonstrated by the photographs that have appeared when revealing a reel in which a gay couple appears kissing, exchanging rings, cutting the cake and opening the bridal dance in a house with the curtains lowered. Hidden from outside eyes expressed their love for family and friends, their union had no legal validity, but despite this they felt the legitimate impulse to ritualize it and commit themselves publicly.

The fact is that someone took that reel to a developer store in North Philadelphia over 50 years ago, but the images revealed were never returned to their owner. Maybe he received threats, he feared reprisals, we don't know because nobody knows who the boyfriends are or the rest of the people who appear in the photographs.

Currently these images are deposited in the ONE Files from the University of Southern California Library and the Wilcox Archives. For almost two years three people have set out to discover the identity of the couple and turn the history of that search into a documentary. It's about the producer Neal Baer, director PJ Palmer and the writer Michael J. Wolfe. They have created a portal, “Our One Story”, in which they hope to receive some clue that helps them locate the couple who could never see the photos of their own wedding. They have also created a Facebook page waiting for the miracle to occur and someone can provide information.

At the moment the search has been unsuccessful but despite this they already have a title for the report: “The mystery of the photos of the gay wedding of 1957”. Hopefully the paths of the contracting intersect with those of the three creators and the story has a happy ending.
