NEWS.- Thousands of people have taken to the streets to demonstrate this Saturday in Hong Kong for the parade of Gay Pride Day. The persistent rain has not prevented them from parading through the most central streets wrapped in rainbow flags and carrying protest banners. All this has taken place in a festive atmosphere without any notable incidents having been recorded.
The figures, as is usual in these cases, oscillate between the 3.000 people who recognize official sources and the 9.000 that the organizers of the celebration point to. This has been the sixth annual Gay Pride march in the former British colony and has a special significance as it is celebrated at a turbulent time for Hong Kong society. The LGTBI community frames its demands in the mobilizations that began in the past 22 of September against the Peking regime to demand more democracy and respect for human rights, the one already known as "The revolution of the umbrellas".
To understand the situation in which millions of LGTBI people live in China, you just have to think that Until the 2001 year, homosexuality was considered a mental illness and in general terms it is still a taboo subject today.
