NEWS.- Twenty years ago, only 20 protesters were part of the Gay Pride march in Madrid, they had the least political or social support, but they took to the streets and showed their faces. Last Saturday more than one million people according to the organizers they started from Atocha at 6 and a half of the afternoon to go to Columbus. They filled the Paseo de la Castellana with the main political leaders at the head of the demonstration: Pedro Sanchez of the PSOE, Pablo Iglesias de Podemos, Alberto Garzón for IU, you could also see some representative of Citizens and union leaders like Cándido Méndez. Only the representation of the party in the Government was missed in the first line, since no outstanding name of the PP led the march. In this regard, the spokesman of the Community of Madrid and member of the Popular Party, Angel Garrido, expressed his desire that relations with representatives of the LGTBI group be unblocked in order to be present at the head of the march next year.
Following the slogan "Laws for real equality Now!", The march lasted for 3 hours with record temperatures that were softened by the presence of firefighters refreshing the participants in Plaza Neptuno. Upon arrival in Colón they were received by the newly appointed Mayor of Madrid Manuela Carmena, being this the first occasion in which an active Madrid councilor attends an LGTBI claim.
Carmena spoke of the two aspects of the Pride, the festive and the vindicative and also highlighted the economic impact that it entails for the city, since it is estimated that almost two million people have visited Madrid on the occasion of the MADO leaving some 150 million euros benefit. Carmena was excited and constantly interrupted by the applause and the signs of affection she said: "In this fight for your rights, you have filled Madrid with inventiveness, creativity ... with a party that was unthinkable. Y you are the artists, the inventors, of a party that is in this city that we all want. This is also a conquest of yours, which I want to acknowledge, thank and tell you that I will do everything in my power to safeguard and enhance it.
