The Ayuntamiento de la Linea de la Concepción has decided to remove an image of a photographic exhibition on LGTBI rights
GAYLES.TV.- The collective Pride and Diversity has denounced the censorship that the Consistory of the Line of the Conception (Cádiz) has applied on a photograph that was part of the exhibition "Right to be". In the image you can see a woman with collars, marrying two men.
The author of the photograph, Marta Castellano, has been perplexed by the fact that the image was removed from the exhibition without prior notice, so that he says: "On the same day of the exhibition we realized that he was not there. We tried to contact the people in charge of the Museum and of Equality but we did not have the possibility ". Of course Marta Castellano describes the situation of "Full-fledged censorship".
In the following days an attempt was made to negotiate a rectification with the City Council, but it was not possible to reach an agreement, which is why the exhibition period finally ended without being able to amend the damage caused. In fact and as explained in a press release the representatives of Pride and Diversity, both the councilman Gabriel Cobos as the delegate of Equality Carmen García, They argued that the images should have been reviewed well in advance and that it was intended to avoid conflicts with religious sectors.
Against this argument, the photographer defends that in the image "No catholic symbol is exhibited, only a collar appears that can be used even by councilors to celebrate links because the regulations allow it". In fact none of the possible affected has filed a complaint of any kind or the image seems offensive. In the same exhibition, couples kissing or referring to other religions appear and that has not been a problem.
According to the organizers of the sample: "It has been a prior censorship, which is what is not allowed according to article 20 of the Spanish Constitution. They have simply censored it because they wanted according to their opinion and I think that the opinion of a city council should not take precedence over the right to the expression of an entire group or of the people ".
Interpellated in this regard, the response of the City Council has been silence, which is why different groups and political parties have already requested the resignation of the head of Equality Carmen García.
