Homosexuality, present at the 2015 Oscar Awards

NEWS.- The Oscar 2015 awards will be surrounded by news, but there is one film that stands out above all others. "Hoje eu quero voltar sozinho" ("Today I want to go back alone"), by director Daniel Ribeiro, addresses homosexuality in society. When a blind and homosexual teenager must fight against an overprotective mother, while living his sexual awakening.

This film will represent Brazil in the competition for the Oscar nominees for the Best Foreign Film that the Academy of Hollywood Arts will deliver in the 2015.

This is the first feature film by Ribeiro, of 32 years, and has had a great reception in specialized film festivals around the world. Such has been his reception, which has opened a debate in countries where homosexuality was still hidden and persecuted.

The announcement was made last week in São Paulo by the Brazilian Culture Minister, Marta Suplicy, who commented that the election of this film comes from the hand of an election period, where the LGBTI community has become a matter of debate in the campaign for the presidential elections of the 5 of October in Brazil.

"This film does nothing but favor the discussion of homosexuality in the country, based on a film with an expressive and delicate language, which deals with the subject not in an explicit but comprehensive way for society, in a classic format".- said the Minister of Culture of Brazil.
