NEWS.- In 2008, Alejandro Jodorowsky burned a closet in Barcelona as a magical symbol of liberation, acceptance and freedom. From that day on, fire became the graphic image and the nickname of the "Mostra Internacional de Cinema gai i lesbià of Barcelona " organized by the Couple Lambda and that tomorrow starts to offer us during 10 days the best of LGTBI cinema. The Mostra returns to light that symbolic match and invite us to celebrate "combating fire with fire", which is the motto that we can read in the poster of this edition, "Fight fire with fire".
This year also fulfill 20 years breaking down barriers and prejudices and celebrate it with a deluxe programming and more of 10 parallel activities such as outdoor screenings, book presentations, live concerts, gender workshops, the traditional "Trans-Art-Cabaret" as well as a dedicated "Educational Program" bullying and homophobia in schools.
A celebration that, beyond the passage of time and the inevitable anniversaries, aims, in the words of its organizers, “to celebrate the fact of continuing to stand, of resisting, of fighting. Encouraging us, more than ever, not to be complacent or conformist and to carry the fire of rebellion wherever it is needed: our own home or anywhere in the world. A flame that does not go out because human rights continue to be questioned and denied. And they need to be vindicated ”.
This year's program focuses on the US as a guest country and Latin America with films from Chile, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela. A total of 43 titles between feature films, documentaries and shorts, 12 of them premiere in Spain.
The Mostra inaugurates it "Lilting ..." by Hong Khaou, a multi-award-winning film about family acceptance between two cultures; a sensitive, exemplary work that breaks the stereotypes of the gay genre to talk about homosexuality from family and memory.
