"Disobedience", the story between two women belonging to an Orthodox Jewish community shakes screens
GAYLES.TV.- In these times of ambivalence that we have to live, in this apparent paradise of freedoms ... guarded, limited, threatened, controlled, "Disobedience" It is a necessary film, I would say more, essential. The Chilean Sebastián Lelio has been responsible for directing the adaptation of the first and fascinating novel by the British writer Naomi Alderman. An excellent synthesis of the clash between two absolutes: the feminine desire and the oppression that the patriarchal law supposes.
A film that speaks of struggle, resistance, love, tenderness, uprooting, paradox, contradictions and identities found. A drama that allows few concessions to sentimentality, a necessary collective catharsis on the screen so that many can also project themselves into it.
Two women belonging to the Jewish Orthodox community in London meet again after years of estrangement. Gone is a past in which they were much more than friends, something that in the community environment and under the strict rules to which they were subjected, was not at all viable. Rachel Weisz interprets Ronit, the daughter of the rabbi who marches to New York while Esti, who gives life Rachel McAdams remains in London. After the death of Rabbi Ronit returns and both face the possibility of a second life. But nothing will be easy because, despite the intense love that unites them, the struggle not only against the community but against themselves will make them debate in a sea of confusion between those who supposedly should be and the freedom that leads to the assumption of his authentic identity.
"Disobedience" is a necessary film to be able to return to be and breathe freely in a society in which too many siren songs threaten to return us to the darkest past. If you have the chance to see it, do not miss it.
