Dexter Pottinger assassinated Assassinated gay activist in Jamaica

Dexter Pottinger, the visible face of LGBTI activism in Jamaica has been found murdered in his home in Kingston

GAYLES.TV.- He was known as “the face of Pride” but his name was Dexter Pottinger, fashion designer, judge in a reality show in his country and the visible face of LGTBI activism in Jamaica. Some neighbors reportedly reported hearing screams from their home on Wednesday morning, but did not notify the police. Agents discovered his lifeless body on Thursday and the alleged perpetrator of the murder was arrested on Saturday. According to statements by officers who entered his home in the Washington Gardens in Kingston, "there was blood everywhere." Dexter was stabbed to death.

Although homophobia is very present in Jamaican society, the police force seems to discard it as a motive for the crime and rather they prefer that the motive is related to a matter of vehicle theft.

The popularity of Dexter not only as a designer but especially for his participation in the television show, served to give a great visibility to the PRIDE 2016 celebration in his country. In his own words: "I hope my participation shows people who are well out of the closet in an atmosphere without violence. Let them realize that it is time to be part of the change, not only for the week of pride, but permanently. "

From Gayles.tv we deeply regret this loss and we sympathize with the pain of relatives, friends and colleagues of Pottinger.

Rest in peace, Dexter.
