GLAAD Announces Video Game Nominees for the 33rd GLAAD Media Awards

In times of pandemic, the video game sector has grown exponentially. Many people have found in them a refuge for entertainment, which has led the industry to a period of unprecedented growth. Companies and developers have capitalized on this phenomenon, introducing hundreds of new games and services for players to enjoy.

GLAAD has been promoting inclusion for years LGBTIQ + in video games. Regularly collaborating with developers and the media to ensure meaningful representation is adequately covered LGBTIQ +. Having references is capital and video games are a great way of accessing the youngest.

The GLAAD Media Awards were created in 1989 to recognize and honor the media for its inclusive portrayals of the community LGBTIQ +. Since their inception, these awards have grown to become the annual awards show LGBTIQ + most visible in the world, sending powerful messages of acceptance to audiences around the world.

The category Videogame is an increasingly important part of achieving this goal. In 2019, the winner of the inaugural category of Videogame featured was The Elder Scrolls Online: Summer Set. This year's nominees in the video game category of the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards are:

Boyfriend Dungeon (Kitfox Games)

Boyfriend Dungeon is an indie dungeon crawling and dating simulation game developed and published by Kitfox Games. Taking place in an urban fantasy setting, the player character must fight through dungeons with the help of a human companion who can transform into a sentient weapon.

Far Cry 6 (Ubisoft)

Far Cry 6 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Toronto and published by Ubisoft. It is the sixth main installment in the series. Far Cry, was released on October 7, 2021 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Google Stadia platforms.

The Gardener and the Wild Vines (Finite Reflection Studios)

Jump and cut the flowers that grow on the vines to propel yourself up. Chain them together to go fast, but watch your step! Each level is a handcrafted tower with new mechanics being introduced regularly. By attacking the flowers, they grow new procedural vines with leaves to jump on. Balance your jump up carefully as you watch the vines grow to plan your ascent.

Hit: Bridge of Spirits (Bucket Lab)

Ken: Bridge of Spirits is a 2021 action-adventure video game developed and published by Ember lab. The story follows kena, a young spirit guide who uses her magical abilities to help deceased people pass from the physical world to the spirit world.

Life is Strange: True Colors (Deck Nine Games/Square Enix)

Life Is Strange: True Colors is a graphic adventure that is played from a third person view. The player can explore various locations in the fictional setting of Haven Springs and communicate with non-playable characters through the dialogue tree-based conversation system.

Psychonauts 2 (Double Fine / Xbox Game Studios)

Psychonauts 2 is a third-person platformer similar in gameplay to its predecessor. The player controls Raz, a newly graduated psychonaut with powerful psychic abilities, as he enters the minds of others. The player uses "Psi-Powers", such as telekinesis, pyrokinesis, and levitation, in combination with more common platform game elements, to explore the mental worlds of various non-player characters.

Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan (ManaVoid Entertainment/Skybound Games)

Rainbow Billy is an open-access, role-playing infused, family-friendly adventure where you must save whimsical creatures by bringing color back to the world you once knew. It tells a universal coming of age story about dealing with changes in the world and accepting ourselves and those around us. Sometimes it just takes a conversation, empathy and a new point of view to make a difference.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege (Ubisoft)

The game consists of games of teams of five attackers against five defenders. Defenders must defend an objective within a structure, be it a hostage, two bombs, or a biological container. If they successfully defend the target or eliminate all attackers, they win the round. The attackers must rescue, disable, or secure the target (respectively), or eliminate the defenders to win.

Unpacking (Witch Beam/Humble Games)

Unpacking is a game about the familiar experience of taking possessions out of boxes and placing them in a new home. Part block puzzle, part home decor, you're invited to create a satisfying living space while learning clues about the life you're unpacking. Over the course of eight house moves, you get the chance to experience a sense of intimacy with a character you never see and a story you're never told.

UNSIGHTED (Studio Pixel Punk / Humble Games)

Explore Arcadia the way you like. Save your friends. Time is short. Alma is an automaton who wakes up in a world in ruins after the war against the humans. The anima, the resource that gives life to automatons, is scarce; the lack of anima turns Alma's friends into mindless killing machines that are called UNSIGHTED.

The winners of the GLAAD Awards, including in the video game category LGBTIQ +will be announced on Saturday April 2th 2022.
