Invisible transsexuals

Invisible transsexuals

EDITORIAL.- On March 15, the day of transsexual visibility was celebrated. What a necessary date and at the same time so ignored by the generalist media! We live in a society that closes its eyes to the reality of transsexuality, a society that denies the existence of transsexual people, that wants them invisible, that relegates them to the limbo of diminished rights both at the health and educational level.

The main victims of this ignorance and denial are transgender minors and their families. There is an association that under the name of Chrysallis he organizes and represents them. On the occasion of the celebration of Transsexual Visibility Day, they have published an emotional text that we believe deserves the platform of this editorial space. For this reason we have decided to dedicate it to some words of struggle that arise from the heart and that seek to radically change not only the laws, but also the consciences. Because as they say from their website, "Whoever is not seen is not taken into account."

“Transsexual boys and girls do not exist for the Spanish legislative system, the educational system does not contemplate them and the health system excludes them. With this panorama we have to face day by day, trying that they, our sons and daughters do not notice that they are "the others" and "the others", those who do not appear in textbooks or stories. , those who have a name that hurts them and another that represents them, those who when going to the doctor have to explain their genitals before they look at their throat, those who will have to lie to receive treatment, those who by their simple presence transgress without knowing it.

A culture of sexed beings misinterpreted, rigid and deceitful, makes the gender police determine who they are going to be when they are born. A hurried registration will determine a future of barriers, of silences and looks, of gestures and denials, of deaf cries to be seen.

We claim the visibility of our sons and daughters who exist and are who they say they are, also of those children who are not listened to, who are not seen, who are not watched.

We demand the visibility of those women and those men who were girls and boys silenced, questioned, mistreated.

We claim the visibility of those people who do not fit into a system of absolute truths and cruel extremes. Because nuances and differences make our world what it is ”.
