The Urgent Spanish Foundation includes «trans» among the candidates for word of the year

GAYLES.TV.- On December 29 the Urgent Spanish Foundation (Fundéu BBVA) will reveal what the word of the year is. Twelve currently are the candidates selected among the daily recommendations made on the use of language, among them is our favorite: tranny. For their linguistic interest, for the generated social debate or the doubts about their use, among other requirements, they have also been chosen: aporophobia, learnability, bitcoin, gutting, explanation, false news, hater, dreamers, superbacteria, turismophobia and uberization.

For Trans Platform, that has been selected trans, is already a reason for celebration. «We want to express our gratitude to the Fundéu BBVA because of the visibility it entails for a group that ignorantly lives in social exclusion and in a lack of legal protection that guarantees them the right to self-determination of gender identity and expression, as a fundamental human rightl ”, explains its president Mar Cambrollé. and adds: «lor that is not visible, does not exist and what does not exist, has no rights, therefore the visibility of the word trans is of utmost importance«. The platform highlights in a statement that «the sociocultural situation of trans people has changed in recent years; the great international visibility in the world of fashion, cinema, politics, arts and TV, has brought society and politicians closer to a reality that is not a contemporary phenomenon but has been ostracized«.

The word "trans" is used as a "valid shortening of transsexual or transgender", according to Fúndeu. Its director Joaquín Muller points out that among the candidates «there are some newly created words, such as "turismophobia", which refers to the rejection or aversion to mass tourism; 'Uberization', which is called a certain type of economic activity based on collaborative platforms, or 'machoexplicación', the custom of some men to address women in a condescending way«. This Foundation has been selecting words for five years. The first of these was, in 2013, «escrache», which was followed by «selfie» (2014), «refugee» (2015) and «populism» (2016).
