Barcelona Pride will take place from July 3 to 16 and focuses on generational transversality

This year Barcelona Pride 2023 focuses on sexual diversity in the elderly. The schedule of the event, which will take place from 3 to 16 July in various spaces in the Catalan capital, will focus on the need to vindicate the needs of the LGTBIQ+ collective at all ages and will place special emphasis on the loneliness of the elderly.

The protest party will address the generational transversality from the little ones and their discoveries of sexual orientation, gender identity, to the challenges of the elderly. In its program of activities, presented this May 17 in a press conference, will promote the dialogue between generations about the vital movement and the experience of each one to put the common all that shared.

The Village in University Square

Pride Barcelona 2023This year's edition incorporates a new space of 5.000 square meters: in the university square there will be a great village with tents where the entities, the stands, the PrideKids, and a complementary scenario to the main one of Maria Cristina. Thursday July 13th the Pride proclamation in the University square, and on the 14th and 15th the main activities of this edition will be concentrated. The LGTBIQ+ Pride event organized by Pride Barcelona will take place on Saturday 15, with his usual route in the Paral·lel avenue, from the Parque de las Tres Chimeneas to Plaza España.

Generational transversality

Under the motto «The Pride of our lives. Having a birthday, accompanying us, is growing" he Pride wants to underline the need to promote empathy and solidarity in each of the stages of people's lives LGTBIQ + so that they live in full rights and free of stereotypes and prejudices. This year's edition promises to be a meeting of people of different ages who enrich each other, causing synergies that amplify the set of experiences of the community LGTBIQ +.

"El aging is a continuous process and it is better to raise the issue in a transversal and intergenerational way. Deepen mutual knowledge and nurture empathy and solidarity”, has recounted Maria Giralt, Director of the Social Area of ​​Pride! BCN. That's why this editionfocuses on people and their life process from the discovery of their sexual orientation” and commitment to end the “stereotypes that provoke discrimination, inside and outside the group".

In presenting the Pride BCN two testimonies have intervened, Sebastian Meyer and Laura Vilar, which have explained some of the difficulties faced by the elderly group, especially those who cannot fend for themselves and enter residences, where they are forced to "go back to the closet"«.
