EDITORIAL.- In early October 2010, the Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan proposed the celebration of a day of support of the whole society to the LGTBI youth who suffer harassment and intimidation. And he was called Spirit Day in homage to the purple or purple stripe of the LGTBI flag, whose creator Gilbert Baker defined as the color that representsSpirit Day Gayles.tvto the "spirit".

The first celebration took place the 20 of October of the 2010 in response to a wave of suicides of young students who suffered bullying in their environment, among them one that had special resonance, the one of Tyler Clementi. GLAAD, (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation),  which is a non-profit organization dedicated to the fight to eliminate homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation, proposed to set a date when people would wear purple and the media, web pages and social networks also echoed. The idea was to involve various sectors of society, teachers, workplaces, celebrities and of course the students and their families.

Currently, and only on Facebook, there are more than 2 million people who dye their profile with the purple of the LGTBI flag, from Oprah to Cher and of course television networks like MTV. Even the White House has joined the proposal, thereby sending a message of solidarity and acceptance to LGTBI young people around the planet.

Communities, companies, buildings, religious groups, sports leagues and many more are joining gradually to this symbolic bet that is born in the Anglo-Saxon world but that conquering the world with a simple gesture: today you wear purple to show your support for the most vulnerable, the young people who suffer in silence for their condition or sexual orientation.
