GAYLES.TV.- In its 26th edition, the International AIDS Memorial denounces paralysis in the implementation of the PrEP and underlines the importance of Studies that confirm the intransmissibility of the virus by people HIV + in treatment. As every year, for more than a quarter of a century, the Memorial It has a double mission: on the one hand, to remember the people killed by AIDS and, on the other, to reaffirm the commitment to the fight against the pandemic on the part of the community.

AIDS 2019 memorial posterHundreds of citizens, relatives and friends of people killed by AIDS as well as a prominent representation of civil society, parties and institutions, such as the Councilor of Salut, Alba Vergés, have met in the Acclimatization Garden of Montjuïc Park to commemorate the 26 edition of the International AIDS Memorial.

As in the last editions, the PrEP (Preexposure Prophylaxis) has been one of the main arguments of the intervention of the director of Projecte dels NOMS. Ferran Pujol he has regretted «the inexcusable paralysis in which those responsible for public health seem to have been installed in the State and also in Catalonia at the time of taking forward, once and for all, the implementation of this preventive tool, which is already preventing thousands of new infections in countries around the world«. In this sense, Pujol has denounced that this delay supposes «a violation of the right to health, especially of the gay community in our country«.

The estudios confirm the intransmissibility

The head of the Memorial has also referred to the positive impact it has had in the fight against stigma and discrimination against people HIV + the study Partner-2, a macro observational study at European level, with the participation of 14 countries, which has closely followed 1.000 serodifferent gay couples, in the last 8 years and that has confirmed in a clear way that the risk of virus transmission by seropositive people in treatment is zero.

Pujol has stressed that «dIsolating the scientific evidence that people with HIV who do treatment do not transmit the virus to their sexual partners, even if they do not use a condom, is a fact of great importance at public health level, because it confirms the high preventive potential of antiretrovirals, but also on a personal level and should contribute once and for all to end any kind of discrimination, work, personal or social, towards people with HIV«.

This year, the International AIDS Memorial of Barcelona has been driven by Brigitta Lamoure and has had the participation of Laura Simó, Mone Teruel, Carmen Canela, Joan Vázquez, Albert Pladellorens, Consort Vilamarí and the Cor Masculí de Barcelona. In the course of the act, it has been honored Pilar Heras i Trias, general director of Criminal Enforcement and Juvenile Justice of the Generalitat de Catalunya, for its essential role in the creation of the NGO Projecte dels NOMS, in 1993, recently transferred.
