A "scientific" study says that children's games point to future adult sexual orientation
EDITORIAL GAYLES.TV.- The newspaper ABC has echoed a study that states that the preferences of children when choosing their games and toys would be significant with respect to their adult sexual orientation.
The article starts by saying "homosexual people tend to show more interest in games, toys and typical activities of the other sex than in their own, during childhood ". We start badly because we assume that there are certain children's activities of each sex, as if it were not clear that there are cultural, social and environmental factors that guide and condition the choice of toys.
The study has directed Melissa Hines psychologist University of Cambridge and it has been published in the magazine "Developmental Psychlogy" and disclosed by "Sciencemag.org". The data for its elaboration have been extracted from a British database in which information provided by parents on the behavior of their children during childhood was collected.
To carry it out, 3 groups were created based on age and the degree of "masculinity" or "femininity" of the games was evaluated based on the response of the parents (parents who of course had clear prejudices about what is supposed to be they were male and female games!). To score the parents, they had to be placed on a scale from 0 to 100 where the lowest values were associated with female attitudes and the highest with male ones. Take now, without manias, everything very neutral and very scientific, nothing macho.
But let's continue with the work of Hines. From these objective responses, the psychologist decided to distinguish between "gender-friendly" games and "non-conforming games". A child fighting with other children or playing with a truck would be "compliant" and a girl with dolls or houses as well. The opposite would be "non-compliant". Come on, not at all sexist classification protocol. The rest was sung, it was trying to cross that information with the orientations shown by these creatures in adolescence and you see where it turns out that children prone to "games that do not conform to their gender" were mostly homosexual.
Of course the study has had enthusiasts and detractors and everyone with more or less reasonable arguments. But the question is is it really necessary to invest all that money to try to highlight the obvious? And also based on little or no objective data because, who says that the answers of the parents are not ideologically conditioned? Or that the chosen group is not biased in itself.
But it is that the error is of base because we forget that the creatures first of all imitate what they see and if what they see is marked as far as the genre reproduce the roles and if not then not. That is, if father and mother share tasks and exercise their respective professions in equality, the model will not be marked in advance. Talking about masculinity and femininity in games and toys is a fallacy and a social and educational scourge that we should tend to eliminate instead of using it as an excuse for brainy studies that do not lead to improve anything or show anything in reality.
We would not be surprised to see one of these days an orange truck with the slogan "Girls with a vulva do not play football," for example. Theirs would be that when someone comes to us to say that our child will be gay because he plays with dolls, we reply: “Well so what? Where is the problem?"
