Ellen DeGeneres Reveals Prohibited Word

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia Ellen DeGeneres Reveals Prohibited Word

Ellen was barred from saying "she" so that it could not be deduced that she had a female partner

EDITORIAL GAYLES.TV.- Apparently this news is just another gossip, a celebrity joke, a weekend entertainment, but look where it gives for an editorial. Why? Well because what Ellen DeGeneres has explained on the radio show "On Air With Ryan Seacrest" It is the realization that full equality, integration into diversity, is a long journey. And we are not talking about areas of the planet where homosexuals are defenestrated or lesbians are stoned to death, we are talking about the West and a public figure like DeGeneres.

Following the premiere of season number 15 of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", the presenter went to the aforementioned radio station to promote her space for interviews. There he talked about how things had changed since the premiere of the program in September of the 2003. "At first nobody wanted to buy the show because they thought that nobody would want to see a lesbian during the day and, of course, neither during the night."

So Ellen's only option was to keep her sexuality hidden, in no way deducted from her words that she could have a partner. And that meant a prohibition: he could not use the feminine, I could not say "she" to refer to her partner. And we are talking about only 15 years ago! "I remember something happened to me on the finger and at that time I was in a relationship. I was going to say "we" when commenting and they did not leave me because someone could suddenly imagine a woman in my life ". Grievous, but real and what is worse, to what extent overcome? How many of you have not dodged a direct question using generics? "I've met someone ... my partner is not very sociable ... we went back yesterday on vacation ... he's an incredible person ..." Does it ring you? Yes, you will say that all are very normal phrases, of course, they are great shelters of language not to be visible, are subterfuge, tangents not fully assume the right to be. Because your office mates, your sisters-in-law, your neighbors may also say so, but if you feel like saying: "I've met an amazing aunt ... or Ana is not very sociable ... yesterday we went back on vacation, how nice these days alone with Lucia ..."  Etc, etc, etc ...

We were shocked that a television network would veto "she" to Ellen, while we covered ourselves with the cloak of invisibility of language like Harry Potter. Obviously things have evolved in the public domain, but in private we do not always put ourselves in the right place and if we do not do it, who is going to do it?

Ellen also tells in the interview how difficult it was to find the balance: "So I thought, 'first I lost a lot of audience coming out of the closet and now I'm going to lose my supporters because I'm going to hide it." And it is that his path to coming out of the closet was not easy, since he first exposed his sexual option in public in an episode of the show Ellen in 1997, which cost him the program, until today when he triumphs by Being who you are openly, there is a long, very long road but, like everyone else, it begins with a first step. Cheer up, don't be the one who forbids "us" yourself!
