Cinthya and Florencia, tango without prejudice

Cinthya and Florencia, the tango Cinthya and Florencia, tango without prejudice

Two women compete in the Tango World Cup as a form of denunciation against the prevailing machismo

GAYLES.TV.- Cinthya Tomino and Florencia Da Luisio They are friends since adolescence, their passion for dance and especially for tango, joined their careers in Colón, his hometown in the province of Buenos Aires.

Although this is the first time they compete together, they have a long experience in milongas, exhibitions and other contests. They also share the teaching of tango in an academy and that has already led to facing prejudices of a macho type: "I would never have believed that I would be able to teach without a man; And not only that, today I teach with another woman and we do not feel the lack. I think our students do not either and that is why they choose us "says Florencia.

But this year they have taken the great leap and participate in the Tangos World  in the category Mobile. Until the 2014 the participation to couples of the same sex was vetoed, but nowadays, although they are still minority, they are not an exception. In this edition, two other couples formed by women and a couple of men will compete.

TANGO TWO WOMEN

They have a very clear message of why it is important that the world of tango be transformed: "«We decided to dance against machismo. Some time ago we managed to work without men. When dancing the tango it is thought that the man guides; the world of tango is macho. It is a reflection of society, it is patriarchal. Unfortunately we live in a macho society and tango is no exception. All the time we face prejudices, mainly from older generations, who find it difficult to accept tango in young people and say phrases like 'tango was the one from before' "

When choosing to form a dance partner, they were carried away by the intuition and knowledge that 4 years of friendship give but… "While no one directly opposed, we always receive comments questioning our sexual orientation, because 'something weird they have', they usually say, or 'a problem with men you have'. But they add “Luckily, we see a change in tango fans, mainly young people, who demand that the same openness, inclusion, be a space for creation without limits of sex, sexual orientation, age, nationality, etc. Our expectation for this World Cup is precisely to be able to transmit that: open minds, inspire, make even a minimal contribution to the opening of tango. We would be very happy if we achieved any of this. ".

Hopefully they will get it, while we will settle (which is no small thing!) With the immense gift for the sight that is supposed to see a tango dancing to these two women, do not miss it.
