Refugees LGTBI SOS homosexual refugees

The second reception center in Germany for LGTBI persons opens in Berlin.

EDITORIAL.- Day after day, the citizens of the European Union helplessly witness the tragedy that the arrival of thousands and thousands of refugees to our borders supposes. The trickle of people, the elderly, men, women, children, the sick and the disabled who jump into the sea or cross long stretches facing the cold, hunger and all kinds of adverse circumstances, is incessant. Future generations may one day contemplate the images of this XNUMXst century barbarism in the same way that we are horrified by the images of the Nazi concentration camps.

But even in the case of those "fortunate" who manage to reach European territory, Calvary has in many cases only begun. The figures of missing children rise to thousands and it is known that in most cases they are victims of trafficking networks and sexual exploitation. Not to mention the "Toll" that many women and creatures must pay to cross the borders being vexed, raped and subjected to all kinds of humiliations.
Refugees LGTBI

In the case of homosexuals and transsexuals, tragedy reaches unimaginable levels of torture. Many do not dare to report for fear that it will have a negative influence on their asylum application files. Misinformation, panic and denigrating conditions of survival in refugee camps are the ideal breeding ground for all kinds of abuses.

In Spain two Cameroonians and a Maghrebi were physically assaulted by their comrades in revealing their sexual orientation. But the countries of central and northern Europe do not lag behind this shameful situation. Dutch Volunteers Report regular abuse of homosexuals in a field that houses more than 3000 people. Threats, excrement and litter in the beds are the daily life of gays and lesbians in the countryside near Nijmegen. Denmark has reported 10 cases of abuse. In Finland an individual has been sentenced to 3 for a year and a half in prison for the rape of another immigrant in a shelter. And another conviction has taken place in Sweden where, an applicant who had pending asylum approval threatened to kill a compatriot, spit in his face, kicked him while lying unconscious on the ground and tried to drown him in the shelter of Jönköping. The homosexuality of the victim was the reason for the attackpro-LGTBI refugee demonstration. And let's not forget that most abuses are silenced and go unpunished.

Faced with this barbarism, there is no other option than to demand a strict control of the personnel who care for refugees and the creation of facilities that protect the most vulnerable groups and isolate them. In Finland, secure sections are already being created for groups in fear of being attacked. This week the second reception center in Germany for LGTBI people opens in Berlin. It is a building of 4 plants with capacity for 122 refugees (gays, lesbians and transsexuals) that will be distributed in 29 apartments. The first was inaugurated at the 1 in February in Nuremberg and only has the capacity to house 8 people.

Initiatives like this one should exist in all the countries that are being affected by the wave of people who, in many cases, already flee their areas of origin due to the persecution they suffer due to their sexual or gender condition.
