Arévalo Arévalo: "Franco did not persecute gays"

The humorist Arévalo denies that Franco persecuted the gays in the debut of the “Podriem fer-ho millor” program of the Valencian public radio

GAYLES.TV.- Never the name of a program was so premonitory in relation to its debut. Valencian public radio premiered last Monday “Podriem fer-ho millor” (We could do better) and they lived up to his name.

And they could not have started with a worse footing. They had the humorist as a guest Arévalo, who has not been afraid to openly acknowledge his sympathies for VOX. The point is that, when asked about the limits of humor and if they affected him, he replied: “It doesn't affect me at all. Humor is humor and you have to take it as it is. We are in a very rare society and all life has been able to talk about everything. There is a lot of confusion ”. And here he dropped the bomb referring to Franco in the following terms “When they said that gay people were being persecuted in their time, it was not true. He never chased any gay. I have been a friend of Titi (singer Rafael Conde) until he died and had no problem and that the problem was the chaperos, who were out there by the Law of Vague and Maleantes, who put the Republic and not Franco ”.

In other words, in addition to appearance, ignorant. Because the spokesperson for Compromís in the Valencian Corts took a sigh to respond to him on social networks, Fran Ferri, through his Twitter account. Ferri lamented the passivity of the members who at no time rectified the atrocities that came out of Arévalo's mouth, he also reminded him of executions such as that of Lorca and penalties that involved "banishment, concentration camps or forced labor." And the icing was to remind him that while the Vague and Maleantes Law was passed in by the Republic, it is no less true that "21 was modified years later to include homosexuals."

But Arévalo did not have enough with those statements, in the end he came up and added: “A man who was dedicated to high standing at that time did not dare to leave the closet and what he did was marry, have children and hide it and now he does not hide”. Look, Arévalo, what a bad luck that we no longer hide in the sewers. Bad times for your humor / bazofia of ladybugs. Yuck!

The next day and in view of the avalanche of criticism received on social networks, at the farewell of the program they apologized and put distance with the comedian's words. “Arévalo gave a series of opinions that we do not share. We know about repression, persecutions and lack of freedom during the Franco regime. From here we condemn them and we regret if anyone has felt offended, we hope to improve ”. Late, but less is nothing.
