"My husband is not gay" sparks controversy

NEWS.- The TLC television network has decided to broadcast next Sunday "My husband is not gay", a program that brings together the experiences of four Mormon men from Utah, three of whom are married to women despite claiming that they are attracted to men but that, for moral and religious reasons, they have decided resist temptation and form heterosexual families.

The decision of the chain has unleashed a strong controversy in the United States. On the website Change.org a petition requesting the cancellation of the program's broadcast has already been collected near 100.000 signatures.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against US Defamation (GLAAD), through its president, Sarah Kate Ellis, brand the program and the network of "Totally irresponsible" and they have issued a statement declaring that “No one can change who they love and, more importantly, no one has to be forced to do so. Investing in this type of TLC programming is putting many LGBT youth at risk ”.

Representatives of the channel have defended themselves from criticism through statements to local media where they affirm "that the people who appear in the hour-long special reveal the decisions they have made and speak only on their behalf."

Other media have expressed themselves about the broadcast, this is the case of BBC Mundo journalist Jaime González, who affirms that TLC is known for broadcasting controversial reality programs and cites as an example "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo", starring the girl Alana Thomson and that it had to be canceled a few months ago, after it was learned that the girl's mother was seeing a man convicted of child abuse.
