Perplexity
«We have been perplexed by this decision because we fully believe that giving these books to schools contributes to inclusion and respect for diversity and, obviously, encourages tolerance and also provides tools for teachers«, Has assured the Councilor for Culture, Feminism and LGTBI, Veronica Ruiz,
The mayor explained that «We reaffirm ourselves with the acquisition and distribution in the centers of these lots of books, bought under technical criteria, because we are in a democratic and free society, where tolerance and fundamental rights must prevail, because today's youth will be the adults of morning. We do not understand any violation of religious or ideological freedom to which Christian Lawyers appeal in the car. "
Legal aberration
For its part, Olympe Lawyers, legal office specialized in matters LGTBIQ + based in the Valencia, affirms that the court «justifies the extraordinary urgency of taking such measures in 'irreparable damage' that could be caused to minors by having books on LGTBIQ + subject matter at their fingertips. This is an aberration at the legal and ethical level, as they are absolutely legal books, which have also been in bookstores and libraries for years, the association likes more or less ultra-catholic«.
Regarding the performance of the judge, the lawyers defend that «It can only be concluded that either the judge has not studied the case in an individualized way and has accepted the measures to remove the subject from above or that the judge really believes that thematic books LGTBIQ + they can cause harm to minors. Both decisions are terrible for democracy and violate the fundamental rights of the minors themselves, the authors and the LGTBIQ + collective«.
Judicial measures
Among the writers that appear in this new index of prohibited books, a group of authors based in Spain He has decided to organize and plans to take legal action against the car that censors his books. They declare that in no way their writings can offend the religious feelings of anyone and that, quite the contrary, their reading can be «incredibly useful»For many people, both teenagers LGTBIQ +, who are "who begin to discover and build their identity and need support that is not always easy to find, as adult readers who must understand the value of equality, sexual and gender diversity and respect them as much as they deserve«.
