Collection of LGTBI readings for summer days

GAYLES.TV.- The reading recommendations for the holidays are a classic on these dates. There are those who are already on vacation and those who reserve them for August or September, but everyone has a little while to take a book in their hands and lose themselves in its pages.

What does not abound so much are the recommendations of LGTBI readings, beyond those that can make specialized libraries. That is why today we have collected here the small, but very successful, proposal that comes to us from FLG ASSOCIATION OF LGBTI FAMILIES. Surely among the titles that we present you find some that you find attractive.

And we will start with Mermaids from Jessica Love, a book that has won the prize Llibreter 2019 and that KÓKINOS publishes in Spanish and also in Catalan. SIRENAS is presented as an album with minimal text, but with a display of illustrations overflowing with color and deep meaning. A story told with sobriety and sensitivity, which casts feminine and masculine stereotypes to the ground (shouldn't a boy dress up as a shark or swordfish and a girl as a mermaid?). A book that does not judge or condemn, that respects everyone's desire to be what they dream of and choose, without stigmatizing it. A lesson in openness towards diversity, an example of tolerance and love. Highly recommended to read as a family, reflect and talk with your children at Carnival or at any time of the year ... and in life. The story of Julián, a boy who likes to dress as a mermaid and his grandmother, a woman full of wisdom and tolerance.

A day in the life of Marlon Bundo

The second proposal comes from the hand of YOUTH editorial. It is A DAY IN THE LIFE OF MARLON BUNDO and as the cover says its authorship corresponds to Jill Twiss and Marlon Bundo. But basically the book is the answer in the form of parody of the popular program of HBO Last Week Tonight, presented by John Oliver, to the ultraconservative position of the vice president Mike Pence regarding the rights of the LGTB collective. Pence is known in the US for supporting conversion therapy or sexual reorientation in homosexual adolescents or campaigning against same-sex marriage. Taking advantage that the Pence family was going to get a children's book with the same title, John Oliver's program dared to make a parody of it (using the same protagonist and with a very similar cover) where the vice president's rabbit lived a homosexual romance . The context in which this book appeared and the media support it has received from programs such as Last Week Tonight or The Ellen Show, they quickly catapulted him to the top position in US Amazon sales. (above the book written by the Pence family). All the controversy caused by the publication of both books has made the real rabbit, Marlon Bundo, become a true media phenomenon.

Anna Boluda, known for its award-winning documentaries "Queer Spawn" and "Homo Baby Boom", now delights us with a fiction especially recommended as reading for 3º and 4º of ESO but that has no age limit. We talk about NOTHING TO HIDE, the story of Gina who is 14 years old, wants to make friends in the new institute and two mothers with whom she talks about everything, or practically everything. But after the recent move, a few secrets are hidden. And in the third B classroom, everything is not as it seems to the naked eye.

NOTHING TO HIDE  publishes it TOBACCO y It is a novel about family diversity, bullying and homophobia, but also about friendship, complicity, courage and the rights of LGBT people.

And to finish an essential of FLG ASSOCIACIÓ DE FAMÍLIES LGTBI to whom we thank in passing for the task of offering us this compilation. The book is FAMILIES ALSO from Vicent Borràs and publish it Ed. BELLATERRA. A classic that you have to know and that collects personal stories of people who as a couple or alone have decided to have children. How do they do that? What are your fears and your illusions? After all, these are love stories explained with tenderness and humor.

We hope that among these titles you will find one that will accompany you during the hot summer hours.
