There are not many positive referents either in movies or on television or in public life. The feeling of guilt, and self-homophobia especially in adolescence or a non-receptive environment when coming out of the closet do not help to grow normally.
Despite the fact that progress is being made in leaps and bounds, that there are more and more references and laws that defend the collective, being different always pays, and sometimes with health. We are on the right track but there is still a long way to go before reaching the real equality. A warning for the most optimistic: since the referendum of the Brexit homophobia crimes in the United Kingdom increased by 147%. Owen continues: "society has to assume its responsibility: its constant refusal to treat the LGBT community as equals is the cause of so much pain". And that is why we must continue fighting for real equality, from the laws, but also from the personal.
