In the decade of the 70 the southern American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd popularized the theme "Sweet home Alabama" in response to a song from Neil Young that was titled "Alabama". Young denounced the racism and slavery of the South of the United States, while the boys of Lynyrd Skynyrd thought that all the inhabitants of the area were blamed when in fact they were only isolated cases of racism.
Be that as it may, the fact is that the South has always been more conservative and resistant to changes and social improvements for minorities. And LGTBI rights have not differed much from racial rights. To date gays and lesbians saw how the achievements of their fellow citizens in other states, they stopped when they reached their borders.
The Supreme Court has been pronounced in the sense that Alabama does not have powers to prohibit equal marriage, thus denying the judge's request Roy Moore that, until the previous night, it maintained the opinion that no matrimonial act was signed until the Supreme one pronounced itself. Although Alabama must comply with the ruling, that does not mean that the right to marry of homosexuals has been recognized.
