The L-Health project, funded by the European Union, is the first study on health in LesBianas* at European level and combines quantitative and qualitative methodologies to address inequalities in primary care for this group in Catalonia.
L-Health This is the first study to be carried out in Europe on the health of lesbian, bisexual, pansexual women and heterosexual women who have sexual-affective relationships with other women.
This initiative aims to identify the health inequalities suffered by lesbians*, by applying various qualitative research techniques. With the results, it is hoped to design a training programme aimed at health professionals that will improve healthcare for the group.
One of the lines of the project is to carry out a qualitative study using a chain methodology, which is based on completing an online questionnaire and inviting three LesBianas*.
The project is led by the Jordi Gol i Gurina Primary Care Research Institute (IDIAPJGol) and has the participation of Biomedical Research Institute of Girona Dr. Josep Trueta (IDIBGI), from the Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB), Sida Studi and EuroCentralAsian Lesbian* Community (EL*C).
L-Health has as its main objectives:
• Understand the needs and discrimination experienced by lesbians* in relation to their health and primary care, and analyse health inequalities
• Explore the needs, knowledge gaps and attitudes of primary health care professionals towards lesbians*.
• Design and evaluate training for healthcare professionals to improve clinical practice for LesBians*.
Thus, L-Health seeks to promote excellence in clinical care aimed at this group in the field of primary care, combining research
academic, international community activism and political advocacy in the field of public health.
