A historical law even if it does not allow adoption
GAYLES.TV.- “Today is a holiday for many (…). Because laws are made for people, not for ideologies. For those who love, not for those who proclaim ”. With these words written on his Facebook account the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi celebrated the final approval of the draft law of civil unions between same-sex couples.
The law was passed in the Chamber of Deputies by 372 favorable votes, 51 opposites and 99 abstentions. El Senate had already approved the civil union between homosexuals in February. «We do it by putting the motion of confidence because it couldn't be delayed any further after years of failed attempts. We do it with humility and courage, "says the Prime Minister. Renzi's bravery acquires more value if one takes into account that he declares himself a practicing Catholic and is willing to risk the continuity of his government and the admonition of the Vatican in order to get Italy out of its historical backwardness in terms of civil rights.
The motion of confidence has been criticized by the opposition and by Catholic Church who have dismissed the practice as undemocratic. Opponents of the civil unions law have already declared themselves willing to organize a recall referendum. He too Family Day (a group of organizations that defend the traditional family attacking the new couple models) has requested the protection of the Presidency of the Republic considering that the project may be unconstitutional.
Let's not forget that despite being a historical law in a country with so much weight of Catholicism, it does not equate all rights. It is a decaffeinated law especially because it does not contemplate adoption of homosexual couples.
