GAYLES.TV.- Elliot Page, formerly known as Ellen Page, has announced on social media that she is transgender. Through a statement, the actor nominated for Oscar and protagonist of The Umbrella Academy has written this text:

Hello friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he / they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to write this. To be here. Having reached this point in my life.

I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me on this journey. I can't express how significant it is to be able to love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I am infinitely inspired by the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity, and your tireless work to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I offer whatever support I can and will continue to fight for a more loving and equal society.

I also ask for patience. My happiness is real, but it is also fragile. The truth is that despite how happy I feel and even knowing the privilege I have, I feel afraid. I am afraid of invasion, hatred, "jokes" and violence. To be clear, I'm not trying to turn off this moment that is one of happiness and one that I celebrate, but I do want to mention the big picture. The statistics are impressive. Discrimination against trans people is persistent, insidious, and cruel, with dire consequences. Only in the year 2020 the murders of 40 trans people have been reported, most of whom were trans women of black or Latino origin. To political leaders working to criminalize public health for trans people and deny our right to exist and to all those with a massive platform who continue to spit hostility towards the trans community: you have blood on your hands. You unleash a fury of hatred that falls on the shoulders of the trans community, a community in which 40% of trans adults report having attempted suicide. It's enough. Nobody is "canceling" you, you are hurting people. I am one of those people and I will not keep silent in the face of their attacks.

I love being trans. And I love being queer. And the closer I get to myself and embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I get richer. To all trans people who deal with bullying, self-hatred, abuse, and threats of violence every day: I see you, love you, and will do whatever I can to make this world a better place.

Thanks for reading this.

All my Love,

Elliot
