40 years going out

pride 40 years going out

The 26 of June of 1977 was made in Barcelona the first great manifestation LGTB of Spain

EDITORIAL GAYLES.TV.- Barcelona was a celebration, a blatant and irreverent party, a public demonstration of who we were and there, a great show of solidarity in which young libertarians, syndicalists and feminists took to the street with lesbians, gays and transsexuals in the first great act of visibility LGTB of the Spanish State. 5000 People shouting, singing and parading for a Ramblas that premiered the summer with the smell of gunpowder of the recent verbenas floating in the air.

Manifestation 26 June 1977

We could tell many things about that day, anecdotes, confrontations, arrests, we could talk about Oriol Martí, doctor and non-numerary professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona who was arrested and placed at the disposal of the military judicial authority for demonstrating. Count that there was three seriously injured because the police repressed and with desire, arguing that the participants in the demonstration had attacked and insulted agents of the authority. Telling all that is, above all, saying that that day the seed of our future freedom and our struggle was planted.

Because we had barely left the long night of the dictatorship and the Law of Hazard and Social Rehabilitation that had replaced the Vagos and Maleantes was still in force for homosexuals and that meant fines or even internment in prisons or psychiatric centers where individuals were "rehabilitated" based on aversion therapies that basically consisted of electric shocks. In Badajoz they entered the liabilities and in Huelva the assets, were not case that they were mixed.

Faced with the shame and oppression of the late Francoist policies at the beginning of the transition, the first associative attempts to defend the rights of LGTB people began to be forged. He FAGC (Front d'Alliberament Gai de Catalunya) convene this first demonstration, in the same year was founded the Casal Lambda from Barcelona and Armand de Fluvià would star in the first out of the closet on a TV show.

CARTEL 40 YEARS FIRST GAY MANIFESTATION

All that is what the history books and the ephemeris will tell, but what nobody explains is the tingling of freedom that ran through your skin, the shared feeling that we could because we believed we could. The exhibitions of Nazario and the surprise of finding you Ocaña on any terrace of the Royal Square. They did not remember the slogans, so politically incorrect, that we shouted looking up at the facades: "Behind the windows there are lesbians, behind the balconies, queers". And it is that this demonstration was the result of the glut of timbres in hidden places, rage permanent insult, no power over persecution, detention and rehabilitation. And maybe all that, the images in black and white that wonderful cry for freedom sometimes seem to have more color than some floats today in the XXI century proudly parading through the streets of our cities.

So we must celebrate and get back out on the street, but with awareness of what we are doing, there are many events to commemorate and 40 years is nothing, tango and nostalgia.
