Seven gais arrested in Egypt after attending a wedding

NEWS.- The Attorney General of Egypt Hisham Barakat, ordered last Friday, the preventive detention for four days of seven men accused of committing "acts contrary to public morality, crimes that incite debauchery, and of publish pictures that are shameful and contrary to public valuesTwo others would be under an arrest warrant.

The cause of persecution is the publication in the social networks of a video that, under the title "The first gay wedding in Egypt", shows a wedding ceremony between two men aboard a boat on the Nile. It seems that the police had managed to identify 9 from the 16 wedding attendants. In the video, the couple exchanges rings and they kiss and hug each other among the samples of joy from their friends. For all this the Public Ministry has described the celebration of "brazen and diabolic party" and pointed out that it was held last April.

During the arrest days, the seven young men have been subjected to scans and harsh medical examinations according to state news agency Mena.

Obviously it is an act of homophobia despite the fact that homosexuality is not explicitly prohibited in Egypt. In this case the accusations against homosexuals always apply for "debauchery", which is persecuted and that implies jail sentences and forced labor.

Precisely last April an Egyptian court sentenced to three to eight years in prison four men for having sex with men. The sentence stated that the conviction was justified by "deviant and immoral conduct".
