Taiwan goes down in history as the first Asian country to legalize gay marriage

GAYLES.TV.- The news is that Taiwan legalizes gay marriage, but today the world is celebrated International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia and every year we bring you a reflection on what that entails and what is derived from the statistics. But this time the anniversary has coincided with a historical event, an advance that is a reason for joy for the LGTBI collective around the planet, so let's celebrate.

And what is that motive? Well, nothing less than the approval of homosexual marriage in an Asian country for the first time in history and that country is Taiwan. The Taiwanese Parliament has approved the measure in compliance with a Constitutional court ruling that two years ago ruled in favor of legal union between people of the same sex. The decision was made after debating between three bills, although only one of them, the one that had been presented by the Government, recognized the right of (partial) adoption for same-sex couples and specifically accepted the term “marriage ”.

The president of the country, Tsai Ing-wen, has reacted on Twitter with a publication in which he celebrates that Taiwan is proclaimed as the first in Asia to recognize the right to equality of homosexual people.  "17 May of 2019, in #Taiwan, # ElAmorGanó. We have taken a big step towards true equality, and made Taiwan a better country. "

Thousands of people gathered in the rain in front of the Taiwanese Parliament and burst into applause and cheers at the news that the rule had been approved by 66 votes in favor and 27 against. But it cannot be ignored that the approval of the measure has generated strong divisions and confrontations in the political life of the country due to the frontal rejection manifested by conservative and religious groups that raise as an argument the "no" obtained in a series of popular consultations that promoted last year.

With all the limitations we can not ignore that the news is a big step for the collective and that is why we want from Gayles.tv to send our most sincere congratulations to the people of Taiwan and especially to the LGTBI people.
