The Diversity area of the Government of the Canary Islands urges to celebrate Christmas inclusively and without rejection
Under the slogan "With the chosen family, it's also Christmas”, the area of Diversity of the Government of the Canary Islands launches a campaign aimed at giving value to the families chosen as safe spaces for people to celebrate the Christmas holidays LGTBIQ +.
The concept of family It has grown in our society, there are as many different models as there are a variety of intimate and affective relationships, and of course, the family is no longer just the one made up of people with blood ties. There is also a chosen family, which is amalgamated based on friendship, love and respect.
Faced with this reality, the General Directorate of Diversity of the Government of the Canary Islands has wanted to launch, as it did last Christmas, a message in which it appeals to enjoy the Christmas celebrations of the family that loves, respects, loves and brings joy. The blood family or the chosen one, but the one in which each member finds warmth and refuge, where they can express themselves naturally, openly, and with the confidence that intimacy gives.
The chosen family
"Christmas is identity and cultural heritage, -argues the general director of Diversity, Victor M. Ramirez- but for some people it can be a well of painful memories where the tradition of reuniting the family or the nostalgia of the inherited rites return images of sadness and incomprehension".
"With the chosen family, it's also Christmas” is the motto of this year's Diversity advertising campaign that will be inserted through social networks and digital media, and as explained by the general director “arises from the memory, from the taste of homemade sweets. Flavors and smells that are not forgotten, that for some people are precious treasures and for others, the bitter memory of other times of incomprehension".
He explained Ramirez, "The concept of family has evolved in our society, there are as many different models as there are a variety of intimate and affective relationships and, of course, the family is no longer just the one made up of people with biological ties, but also the one that it is chosen freely, from friendship, love and respect. For this reason, it is important to launch to society that the chosen family, not only the biological one, unites us and shelters us during these Christmas holidays.".
