GAYLES.TV.-  Antía Fernández has become a pioneer of Spanish sport by becoming the first transsexual person to play in the official competition of an Olympic sport. Last Sunday he made his debut in the Padre Faustino / Calasancias of A Coruña in the 2ª division feminine thus seeing his dream fulfilled.

Until the present, Antía had developed her sports vocation outside of official competitions because the recognition of her transsexuality was necessary to be able to develop her vocation. "But I was missing something to fulfill myself," he says. I was missing that team playing that I can now have, that they recognize you and treat you as a female ». He could have joined a men's team but could not identify with the group,  Even if you make a late transition, you know who you are. I never felt like a boy ".

When he already had a female identity card, he thought that his problems would be over, but up to three sports specialties turned their backs on him. «The regulation of some sports is invasive and uncompromising with the normalization of transsexuality. They demand very comprehensive medical certificates, medical courts, or even surgical reassignment. They are international regulations that should be adapted to the reality of each country. In Spain identity reassignment is allowed without undergoing surgery, but still some modalities cannot be practiced ”.

With volleyball things changed, she found a team that admitted it in the training but not in the parties claiming that the season was already started. At last Antonia saw a light when she contacted Luismi Fernández, Calasancias coach who, after being interested in his level, was clear, "He gave me a female ID, and that was enough". However, the player preferred that a prior consultation be made to the Spanish Federation and after two days the answer came: there was no problem for Antía to play in official competition in a women's team.

Stunned by media attention, she smiles happily and says, "Now I'm still assimilating the moment. There was a lot of expectation to be the first game, but then the second and third will come and we will continue to normalize and train. "

I hope so, that Antía and all the Antías of the world can continue to normalize and live happily their dreams.
