A couple arrested in Valencia for threatening a minor who had a romantic relationship with their daughter
Agents of the National Police they have arrested in the province of Valencia a woman and a man aged 45 and 47, respectively, as alleged perpetrators of a hate crime and threats after insulting and threatening to kill a minor for her sexual orientation and having a relationship with their daughter.
The investigation began when agents belonging to the Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM) they learned of events that occurred days ago in which a minor was insulted and threatened with death by a partner as a result of her sexual orientation.
The girl had a sentimental relationship with the daughter of that couple, a relationship that both minors kept secret for fear of possible reprisals they could receive from them.
Therefore, the investigators found out the identity of the suspects who were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a hate crime and threats. Those arrested, without a police record, have been brought to justice.
Increase in hate crimes
Spain register a increase in hate crimes in recent years, which has only found a certain drop during 2020, the year in which the confinement derived from the coronavirus pandemic occurred. The escalation has been appreciated in recent years: 2016 (1.72), 2017 (1.419), 2018 (1.598) and 2019 (1.706).
The sexual orientation assaults they have also increased and in this case the confinement has not influenced. In fact, in 2020 practically the same number of crimes were registered (282) as in 2019, when there were no restrictions of any kind (283).
