Despite the vote against Chancellor Angela Merkel, the lower house has fully approved the approval of gay marriage in Germany
GAYLES.TV.- What a great PRIDE for homosexual people in Germany! A historic debt, a great step that the locomotive of Europe could not afford to delay any longer. Just three months before the general elections, the initiative was approved with the votes of 393 deputies and 226 opposed. The support came from the Social Democrats, the Left and the Greens, but also from some conservative deputies who enjoyed freedom of vote.
After being approved marriage between people of the same sex in the Bundestag (the lower house), Merkel argued his vote against in an appearance before the media, saying that in his opinion, Article 6 of the German Constitution, when it speaks that "marriage and the family are under the special protection of the state order", is speaking of marriage between a man and a woman.
Interestingly, Merkel herself supported the adoption by gay couples alleging that, after much reflection, she had reached the conclusion that this was the last barrier that discriminated against homosexual couples and that the adoption did not negatively affect the little ones. It is paradoxical the acceptance of the adoption and the rejection of equal marriage by the chancellor, but in any case, the final result has been the approval thanks to the proposal of the Social Democracy and although this has involved the breaking of the agreement coalition with Merkel's conservatives.
In the words of Thomas Oppermann"This decision may not be good for the coalition, but it is good for the people, and good for Parliament," and showed his rejection of the need to reform the Constitution. To the story will pass the sentence with which tried to convince the reticent deputies to give the yes: "If marriage for everyone arrives, something will have been given to someone, but nothing will have been taken away from anyone".
It should be noted that Chancellor Angela Merkel, in spite of her vote against but being aware of the different currents of opinion within the ranks of her party, decided that the deputies of the conservative group vote in conscience. And precisely that freedom of voting has ended up giving a large majority to the yes.
Both the representatives of the Greens and those of the Left, were very pleased by the "historic" achievement achieved after a decades-long struggle for the rights of homosexuals in Germany. The culmination of this struggle was for many LGTBI activists occupied the rostrum of guests of the Bundestag while hundreds of people celebrated their triumph in the street kissing and waving flags of the rainbow.
